Hello beautiful!

Happy July to you, wherever you are in the world, summer, winter, hot, cold… I’d love to ask you…

How often do you take time to refresh yourself? Your spirit? Your body? Your brain? And your emotional body?

And what does that look like for you? When you take time, is it a 5 minute deep breathing exercise, or a yoga class, or listening to an inspiring podcast, or a day off of social media, or taking a nap, or a get away from your home to someplace different? Do you take time to be in a circle of women who are supportive? Or to work with a coach, one-on-one, for tools, accountability, support, and help in rewriting your story and opening up your vision?

All of these things are great, and important, for your own creative spark, for your health and wellness, for you to step into your best life, your abundance, and your dreams, and also to back fall in love with you as you are now. Because first, we;ve got to love who we are today, before we can step into tomorrow. Know what I mean?

And that often takes time for the refresh, the renewal, to sit down and journal, to get off the couch and move your body, to step away from the hustle, to make quiet time for reflection too.

That’s what I’m doing this summer, on this extended road trip that my man, my corgidog, and I are doing. Driving across the country, for so many reasons. Mainly to go visit my mom in Ohio for 5 weeks and help take care of her. She’s going to be 97 and she is still rocking it! But needs help, so my siblings and I split the caretaking love for her,

But in the meantime, as we drive across this gorgeous country, visiting friends, and viewing the countryside as we cruise through so many states, I am forever breathing deep and looking out my window at the vastness of the land. From desert rocks and heat, to mountains of grandeur, to rolling green hills, to forever acres of growing cornfields, just the beauty can bring me to my knees. I feel so blessed to be able to witness all this country has to offer us, and I think of how often some don’t want to or get to experience the bounty. Nature is my religion, and the land is so sacred, as are all the amazing creatures that live with us ( as we humans keep moving them out of their natural habitats- but that’s another subject!).

Connecting to nature, everyday, is a non-negotiable for me. Whether it be my morning ritual of walking outside with my dog, or hiking, or sitting on the land. I love to listen deep and honor, and revere the land that we often take for granted. So, this is how I refresh.

I am spending 2 weeks at my family’s cottage in Wisconsin on a small private lake, and this is a rustic cottage, built in 1927, that my dad, my family, grew up in, and I used to visit every summer growing up, too. This is one of those beautiful old cottages, that used to have an outhouse, nothing fancy here, no air con or heat, just a funky fabulous cottage on a small lake. Jeff and I got married on the beach here way back in 1984 and we will be here for our 39 anniversary (OMG). And I am blessed to be able to make this happen (3rd year in a row, lately). I have created my life, my work, so I can do this type of thing.

Now I am not totally unplugged. I still work with my clients, and students remotely,  I don’t have the best internet connection out here in the middle of nowhere. i am working on my next poetry book, my vision for the summer. But this revives me, stepping away from my home office and my daily at home to do things. I open my eyes to new experiences that refresh me. I take time to just BE, and not DO. I choose to walk around the lake, or just sit and watch the water move or the butterflies flit on by, or get in the kayak for an early morning meditation.

And this is when those new visions come to light. New ideas for projects, for coaching clients, for dance classes, and for my next year’s movement and wellness etreat to Costa Rica!!! ( who’s in for that one?) I can do this type of refresh at home, and I do. But sometimes I want to step away to get that clearer picture, to see things that I might not see when I’m in my everyday activities. I want that deeper connection with myself and my dreams, and who I am today. As we age, we change, we expand into somethings more, different. and that is so important to acknowledge and listen to and allow the space to dream big!

So I remind you, that you too, can take time for a refresh, to rejuvenate, however that works for you ( and no, not just a mani/pedi!), but to really reconnect with your heart and soul. So tell me, beautiful one, how does that work for you? What are you needing? Wanting? Wanting more of? Wanting to change?

And what are you loving about yourself today? Please remember to step into that gratitude of who you are now and how wonderful that is, how blessed we truly are, on this planet, on this land, in our hearts and souls and bodies. You are amazing!
